Net and Bone

On Svalbard reindeer and industrial fishing nets washed ashore from global ocean circulation.

On the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard, large industrial fishing nets find their way to the coastline and beaches, brought from all over the world via global ocean circulation. Thick and green, they appeal to the reindeer to rub against as they shed their velvet. An unfortunate rubbing that becomes a detrimental entanglement as starvation often occurs once fully caught within the thick ropes.
